Abdullah Ahmadzai
Player Information
Player Overview
Abdullah Ahmadzai is an Afghanistan fast bowler who joins Desert Vipers for DP World ILT20 Season 5. Born on 26 June 2003, he bats right handed and bowls right-arm fast-medium. Ahmadzai is part of a new group of Afghanistan pace bowlers gaining experience at international level. Desert Vipers recruited him at the Season 5 player auction, and the franchise officially lists him as a Bowler in its current squad.
Career Background
Ahmadzai progressed through Afghanistan cricket before earning senior international opportunities in 2025. His T20I debut came against the United Arab Emirates at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on 5 September 2025. He continued to receive opportunities against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Qatar later that year. Those matches gave the young seamer experience in different situations before he became part of Afghanistan’s plans for major international events in 2026.
Playing Style
Ahmadzai is primarily a right-arm pace bowler rather than a batting all-rounder. His job in T20 cricket is to provide a faster bowling option in an Afghanistan setup traditionally associated with high-quality spin. As a developing fast bowler, he has already been used against international batting lineups in both the UAE and other conditions. His batting is a secondary part of his game, with Desert Vipers signing him specifically within their bowling group.
International Career
Ahmadzai’s early T20I career has included several useful wicket-taking performances. He took 2 for 20 against Zimbabwe in October 2025 before following it with 2 for 28 and then 3 for 42 during the same series. He also took 2 for 26 against Qatar in November 2025. In 2026, he represented Afghanistan against West Indies and appeared at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He later remained involved with Afghanistan’s T20 setup and was selected for the country’s squad at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Which Team Does Abdullah Ahmadzai Play for in ILT20?
Abdullah Ahmadzai plays for Desert Vipers in DP World ILT20 Season 5. He was recruited at the player auction held on 1 October 2026. The current Vipers squad page lists Ahmadzai among the team’s specialist bowlers.
Abdullah Ahmadzai’s ILT20 Record
Season 5 is Ahmadzai’s first campaign as part of the Desert Vipers ILT20 squad. He was an auction recruit rather than a member of the Vipers team that won the Season 4 championship. For that reason, no previous Desert Vipers ILT20 wickets, appearances or bowling figures are being attributed to him. His official Season 5 record can be added once he has appeared in the competition.

His international experience in UAE conditions may be useful, but his exact role, overs and place in the playing XI will depend on team selection. No Season 5 performance statistics are available before the tournament begins.
