Player Overview

Andries Gous is a United States wicketkeeper-batter who returns to Desert Vipers for DP World ILT20 Season 5. Born on 24 November 1993 in Welkom, South Africa, Gous bats right handed and provides the Vipers with both top-order batting and wicketkeeping. He represented the franchise during its championship-winning Season 4 campaign and was secured again before the Season 5 player auction.

Career Background

Gous spent many years in South African domestic cricket before moving to the United States in 2021. His career in South Africa included appearances for Free State and the Knights. After qualifying to represent the USA, he made his T20 international debut against Canada in April 2024. He started his international career strongly with half-centuries in each of his first two T20I appearances and soon became part of the USA’s top-order batting plans.

2024 T20 World Cup Performance

Gous played an important role in the United States’ run to the Super Eight stage of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He finished as the USA’s leading run-scorer with 219 runs. His best innings of the tournament came against South Africa in the Super Eight stage, when he scored an unbeaten 80 from 47 balls. His performances helped establish him as a regular member of the USA international side.

Playing Style and Wicketkeeping

Gous is primarily a wicketkeeper-batter and is regularly used in the top order. His right-handed batting gives him the ability to score quickly in the powerplay, while his wicketkeeping allows a team to combine two roles in one selection. Desert Vipers Director of Cricket Tom Moody highlighted this dual skill when discussing the decision to keep Gous for Season 5, pointing to both his top-order impact and his work behind the stumps.

Andries Gous with Desert Vipers

Gous originally joined Desert Vipers as a direct signing for Season 4. His campaign was interrupted by a calf injury suffered during the Vipers’ fourth match against MI Emirates, which forced him to miss several matches. He later returned to fitness as the Vipers continued their successful campaign. The team went on to win its first ILT20 championship by defeating MI Emirates in the final on 4 January 2026.

Which Team Does Andries Gous Play for in ILT20?

Andries Gous plays for Desert Vipers in the DP World ILT20. The franchise secured him before the Season 5 auction alongside Dan Lawrence and Shimron Hetmyer, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman joined as another pre-auction signing. Gous also fills an important Associate Nation position in the squad. Desert Vipers analyst Freddie Wilde described securing him before the auction as especially valuable because of the league’s playing XI requirements.

Andries Gous in ILT20 Season 5

Gous enters Season 5 as one of the returning members of the defending champions.
