Darwish Rasooli
Player Information
Darwish Rasooli Player Overview
Darwish Rasooli is an Afghanistan batter who joins Dubai Capitals for DP World ILT20 Season 5. A right-handed player from Laghman, Rasooli progressed through Afghanistan’s youth and domestic systems before reaching senior international cricket. He has since added leadership responsibilities to his career and enters the 2026 ILT20 season as one of four Afghanistan players in the Dubai Capitals squad.
Playing Style
Rasooli is primarily a right-handed batter and has often operated in the middle order. His game is based on building an innings before increasing the scoring rate, making him capable of adapting to different match situations. He is also listed as an off-break bowler, although batting remains his main role for Afghanistan and in domestic cricket.
Which Team Does Darwish Rasooli Play for in ILT20?
Darwish Rasooli plays for Dubai Capitals in DP World ILT20 Season 5. The Capitals signed him through the Season 5 Player Auction alongside fellow Afghanistan players Sediqullah Atal and Karim Janat, while left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad had already joined the franchise as a pre-auction signing.
Rasooli therefore forms part of a four-player Afghanistan group within the Capitals’ 23-man squad. His inclusion gives Dubai another specialist batting option while also helping the franchise meet Season 5 squad requirements for Afghanistan players.
Early Career and Afghanistan Under-19 Cricket
Rasooli began his senior domestic career at a young age, making his List A debut in 2017 before also entering Afghanistan’s Shpageeza Cricket League. His early performances earned him a place in Afghanistan’s Under-19 setup, and he represented the country at the 2018 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Afghanistan enjoyed an impressive tournament in 2018, reaching the Under-19 World Cup semi-finals for the first time. That period gave Rasooli experience on an international stage before his eventual progression to the senior national side.
International Career
Darwish Rasooli made his senior T20 international debut against Bangladesh in Mirpur on 3 March 2022. Later that year, he was selected in Afghanistan’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
His T20I career has continued to develop since then. By October 2026, the ICC listed Rasooli with more than 30 T20 international appearances. His highest T20I score is 84, made against West Indies in January 2026. That innings remains an important marker of his ability to make a substantial contribution at international level.
Leadership with Afghanistan
Rasooli’s career has also developed through captaincy. He led Afghanistan in a one-off T20 international against Qatar and scored 66 in an Afghanistan victory. In August 2026, the Afghanistan Cricket Board named him captain of the AfghanAbdalyan squad for the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Asian Games squad combined experienced international players with emerging Afghan talent, giving Rasooli responsibility for leading a developing group. His selection as captain provides evidence of his growing leadership role within Afghanistan’s wider cricket structure.
Darwish Rasooli in ILT20 Season 5
For Dubai Capitals, Rasooli offers a combination of international experience, middle-order batting and leadership background. He joins a batting unit containing Faf du Plessis, Rovman Powell, Max Holden and Sediqullah Atal, giving the Capitals different options when selecting their lineup.
DP World ILT20 Season 5 runs from 21 November to 20 December 2026. Dubai Capitals begin their campaign against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at Dubai International Stadium on 22 November. For Rasooli, the tournament provides another opportunity to transfer his international and domestic experience into franchise T20 cricket in UAE conditions.
