Ishtiaq Ahmed
Player Information
Player Overview
Ishtiaq Ahmed is a Saudi Arabia international bowler who joins Desert Vipers for DP World ILT20 Season 5. Born on 1 November 1993, he bats right handed and bowls right-arm medium-fast. The current Desert Vipers roster lists him as a specialist Bowler. He arrives at the defending champions with previous ILT20 experience and an established wicket-taking record for Saudi Arabia in T20 international cricket.
Career Background
Ishtiaq made his T20I debut for Saudi Arabia against Maldives on 23 October 2021. He developed into one of the leading bowlers in the Saudi national team over the following seasons. By the time Desert Vipers announced their Season 5 auction signings, the franchise reported that he had taken 69 wickets in 51 T20 internationals. His international career has included matches in regional qualifiers and other competitions as Saudi Arabia continues to develop its presence in international cricket.
Playing Style
Ishtiaq is a right-arm medium-fast bowler whose main role is taking wickets and controlling runs rather than contributing heavily with the bat. His T20I record shows that he has been used regularly as a frontline bowling option for Saudi Arabia. Desert Vipers analyst Freddie Wilde said Ishtiaq stood out in the data when the franchise researched players from less familiar cricket markets ahead of the Season 5 auction. His selection adds another pace option to the Vipers bowling group.
International T20 Record
Ishtiaq’s international record includes a five-wicket haul, with career-best T20I figures of 5 for 27. He entered October 2026 as Saudi Arabia’s leading T20I wicket-taker according to Desert Vipers. He then continued adding wickets during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Sub-Regional Qualifier B. Against Hong Kong on 11 October 2026, he took 4 for 25 from four overs as Saudi Arabia defended 168 and won the match by 10 runs.
Previous ILT20 Experience
Season 5 will be Ishtiaq’s first campaign with Desert Vipers, but it is not his first experience of the ILT20. He represented Gulf Giants during Season 4 after Saudi Arabian players were introduced across the six franchises as part of the league’s collaboration with the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation. That previous exposure means he joins the Vipers already familiar with the tournament environment and cricket in the UAE.
