Karim Janat Player Overview

Karim Janat is an Afghanistan international all-rounder who joins Dubai Capitals for DP World ILT20 Season 5. A right-handed batter and right-arm medium bowler, Janat offers the Capitals a flexible T20 option capable of contributing in both disciplines.

His experience extends from Afghanistan international cricket to domestic and franchise competitions. Dubai Capitals added Janat through the Season 5 Player Auction, bringing another experienced Afghanistan player into a squad that also features Noor Ahmad, Sediqullah Atal and Darwish Rasooli.

Playing Style

Janat’s value comes from his ability to fill more than one role. With the bat, he can operate in the middle and lower-middle order and has the power to accelerate when a T20 innings requires quick runs. His right-arm medium pace provides an additional seam-bowling option.

This versatility allows a captain to adjust the bowling combination without weakening the batting order. Janat has also played enough international cricket to understand different match situations, from rebuilding an innings to attacking during the final overs.

Which Team Does Karim Janat Play for in ILT20?

Karim Janat plays for Dubai Capitals in DP World ILT20 Season 5. He was secured during the Season 5 Player Auction as part of the Capitals’ 19 auction additions.

Janat joins an experienced Dubai squad containing all-rounders such as Marcus Stoinis and Dasun Shanaka. His inclusion provides another combination of power hitting and seam bowling, while his familiarity with UAE conditions through Afghanistan’s international matches in the country is an additional advantage.

Afghanistan International Career

Janat made his T20 international debut against the United Arab Emirates at the ICC Academy in Dubai on 14 December 2016. Despite entering the match without previous senior T20 experience, he made an immediate impact and earned the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.

His ODI debut followed against Zimbabwe in February 2017, while he later made his Test debut against Bangladesh in 2023. By 2026, Janat had developed into one of Afghanistan’s more experienced T20 international players.

Five-Wicket Haul Against West Indies

One of the standout bowling performances of Janat’s international career came against West Indies in Lucknow in November 2019. He took 5 for 11, recording his first five-wicket haul in T20 international cricket.

The spell remains a strong example of Janat’s wicket-taking ability with medium pace. Performances of this type underline why his bowling can be more than simply an additional option when conditions or match-ups favour seam.

Early Career and Under-19 World Cup

Janat first gained wider attention while representing Afghanistan at the 2016 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He finished as Afghanistan’s leading run-scorer at the tournament with 273 runs from six matches.

His campaign included a remarkable 156 against Fiji, showing the batting ability that would later complement his seam bowling at senior level. He progressed quickly after the tournament and made his Afghanistan T20I debut before the end of the same year.

Domestic All-Round Performances

Janat has also produced significant all-round performances in Afghanistan’s domestic cricket. During the 2022 Ahmad Shah Abdali four-day tournament, he scored 561 runs at an average above 140, including two centuries and four fifties, while also taking 18 wickets.

In the 2024 Qosh Tepa National T20 Cup, he played a major role in Band-e-Amir Region’s title-winning campaign. Janat finished as the team’s leading wicket-taker, was their second-highest run-scorer and produced a century in the final.

2024 T20 World Cup

Janat was part of Afghanistan’s squad for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States. The tournament became a landmark campaign for Afghanistan as they defeated teams including New Zealand and Australia before reaching the semi-finals for the first time in a senior ICC men’s event.

His continued presence in Afghanistan’s T20 plans has added major-tournament experience to a career already built around the shortest format. He was also selected for Afghanistan’s 2025 Asia Cup squad and remained part of the national setup in 2026.

What Karim Janat Adds to Dubai Capitals

Janat gives Dubai Capitals another genuine all-round option. His medium pace can support the specialist fast bowlers, while his batting provides depth behind the Capitals’ established top and middle-order names.

He also brings substantial experience of playing in the UAE. Janat made his T20I debut in Dubai and Afghanistan have regularly used the country as a venue for international cricket, meaning the conditions should be familiar when he begins his Season 5 campaign.

Karim Janat in ILT20 Season 5

Karim Janat enters DP World ILT20 Season 5 as an experienced Afghanistan all-rounder with more than a decade of senior domestic and international development behind him. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball gives Dubai Capitals another adaptable option across different match situations.

Dubai Capitals begin their Season 5 campaign against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at Dubai International Stadium on 22 November 2026. Janat will compete for a place in a strong Capitals squad as the franchise begins its latest title challenge.
