Player Information
Mustafizur Rahman Player Overview
Mustafizur Rahman is a Bangladesh left-arm fast-medium bowler who joins Dubai Capitals for DP World ILT20 Season 5. Known internationally as “The Fizz”, Mustafizur has built his reputation through variations in pace, cutters and his ability to operate effectively during both the powerplay and death overs. Dubai Capitals secured him before the Season 5 Player Auction, making him one of the franchise’s four pre-auction signings.
Playing Style and Bowling Strengths
Mustafizur’s bowling is defined by variation rather than relying entirely on outright pace. His cutters, slower deliveries and changes of angle can make clean hitting difficult, particularly when a surface offers some grip. He is also an experienced death-overs bowler, a phase in which changes of pace and accurate execution become especially important in T20 cricket.
As a left-arm seamer, he also gives Dubai Capitals a different angle of attack from their right-arm fast bowlers. His experience against international and franchise batters provides the Capitals with a specialist option for high-pressure overs.
Which Team Does Mustafizur Rahman Play for in ILT20?
Mustafizur Rahman plays for Dubai Capitals in DP World ILT20 Season 5. He was secured as a pre-auction signing alongside Marcus Stoinis, Noor Ahmad and Rovman Powell. The official ILT20 squad announcement therefore confirms him as part of the Capitals’ 23-player squad for the 2026 season.
International Career with Bangladesh
Mustafizur made an immediate impact when he entered international cricket in 2015. In his first ODI series against India, he took five wickets on debut and followed it with six wickets in the second match. He finished the three-match series with 13 wickets, establishing himself as one of Bangladesh’s most exciting young fast bowlers.
His early success brought international recognition. Mustafizur was named in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2015 and became the first Bangladesh player to be included in an ICC Men’s Team of the Year. He also received the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award in 2016.
T20I Record and Career-Best Bowling
Mustafizur has remained a major part of Bangladesh’s T20 international attack. One of his standout performances came against the United States in May 2024, when he took 6 wickets for 10 runs. Those figures became his career-best in T20 international cricket and demonstrated the value of his variations in the shortest international format.
He has represented Bangladesh at multiple ICC tournaments and accumulated more than 150 T20I wickets during his international career. That experience gives Dubai Capitals a bowler accustomed to facing high-level batting lineups and delivering in matches where the margin for error is small.
Franchise T20 Experience
Mustafizur’s career also includes extensive franchise T20 experience. He made an immediate impression in the Indian Premier League with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016, taking 17 wickets during their title-winning campaign and becoming the first overseas player to win the IPL Emerging Player award.
He has subsequently represented several IPL franchises, including Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings. Playing across different teams and conditions has added to his experience as a specialist T20 fast bowler.
Mustafizur Rahman in ILT20 Season 5
For Dubai Capitals, Mustafizur adds an experienced left-arm pace option to a bowling group that also includes Noor Ahmad, Luke Wood and Matt Potts. His ability to use slower balls and cutters gives the Capitals tactical flexibility across the three UAE venues used for Season 5.
DP World ILT20 Season 5 runs from 21 November to 20 December 2026. Dubai Capitals begin their campaign against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in Dubai on 22 November, with Mustafizur entering the tournament as one of the franchise’s major pre-auction bowling signings.
