Player Information
Phil Salt Player Overview
Phil Salt is an England international wicketkeeper-batter who joins Dubai Capitals for DP World ILT20 Season 5. An aggressive right-handed opener, Salt has built his reputation around attacking from the beginning of an innings and putting pressure on bowlers during the powerplay.
Dubai Capitals secured Salt for US$80,000 at the Season 5 Player Auction. He joins Faf du Plessis as one of the franchise’s major top-order additions, giving Dubai an experienced and attacking opening combination for the 2026 tournament.
Playing Style
Salt’s batting is based on positive intent. He looks to score quickly against the new ball, uses the fielding restrictions aggressively and has the range to attack both pace and spin. His ability to maintain a high scoring rate makes him particularly suited to opening the batting in T20 cricket.
He also provides a specialist wicketkeeping option. That dual role can help Dubai Capitals balance their playing XI by combining an explosive top-order batter and wicketkeeper in a single position.
Which Team Does Phil Salt Play for in ILT20?
Phil Salt plays for Dubai Capitals in DP World ILT20 Season 5. The Capitals bought him for US$80,000 during the Player Auction held in Dubai on 1 October 2026.
The franchise has identified Salt and Faf du Plessis as a potentially destructive opening combination. With players such as Rovman Powell, Marcus Stoinis and Dasun Shanaka available further down the order, Salt’s powerplay aggression gives the Capitals an opportunity to attack from the first over.
England International Career
Salt made his England international debut in ODI cricket against Pakistan in July 2021 before making his T20I debut against West Indies in January 2022. He subsequently established himself as one of England’s leading attacking options in the shortest format.
By October 2026, Salt had scored more than 1,800 runs in T20 international cricket. His career strike rate remained above 160, illustrating the aggressive approach that has defined his role for England.
Career-Best 141 Against South Africa
Salt produced one of the most destructive innings of his international career against South Africa at Old Trafford in September 2025. He smashed 141 from only 60 deliveries as England reached 304 for 2.
Salt reached his century from 39 balls and finished with 15 fours and eight sixes. His 141 became his highest T20 international score and demonstrated his ability to turn a strong powerplay into a match-defining innings.
Back-to-Back T20I Centuries
Salt had already established his international T20 credentials during England’s 2023 tour of the West Indies. He struck an unbeaten 109 from 56 balls in Grenada before following it with 119 from 57 deliveries in Trinidad.
The back-to-back centuries showed that his game extends beyond quick starts. When Salt bats deep into an innings, his combination of boundary hitting and sustained scoring rate can produce exceptionally large totals.
2022 T20 World Cup Winner
Salt was part of the England squad that won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. He came into the playing XI during the knockout stage after Dawid Malan was injured and featured in both the semi-final against India and the final against Pakistan.
England defeated Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to claim the title, giving Salt an ICC world championship early in his international career.
Franchise T20 Experience
Salt has developed extensive franchise experience alongside his England career. He has played in major T20 competitions including the Indian Premier League, The Hundred, Big Bash League and other franchise tournaments around the world.
His franchise career has regularly featured him as a top-order aggressor and wicketkeeper. By 2026, he was also the leading men’s run-scorer in the history of The Hundred, having passed 1,100 runs in the competition.
What Phil Salt Adds to Dubai Capitals
Salt gives Dubai Capitals an established wicketkeeper who can also set the tempo at the top of the order. His ability to attack during the powerplay can immediately place opponents under pressure and create a platform for Dubai’s experienced middle order.
His partnership potential with Faf du Plessis is particularly significant. Both batters have extensive franchise experience, but their different approaches give Dubai flexibility depending on conditions, opposition bowling and the required scoring rate.
Phil Salt in ILT20 Season 5
Phil Salt enters DP World ILT20 Season 5 as one of Dubai Capitals’ headline batting additions. His combination of wicketkeeping, powerplay hitting and extensive international T20 experience makes him a natural candidate for a major role in the Capitals lineup.
Dubai Capitals begin their campaign against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at Dubai International Stadium on 22 November 2026. Salt’s ability to score rapidly at the top could be an important part of the franchise’s approach throughout Season 5.
