Rovman Powell Player Overview

Rovman Powell is a Jamaican cricketer and experienced West Indies middle-order batter who returns to Dubai Capitals for DP World ILT20 Season 5. Known for his power hitting and ability to finish T20 innings, Powell brings international experience, franchise cricket exposure and an established record with the Capitals. He was one of four players secured by Dubai Capitals before the Season 5 Player Auction.

Playing Style

Powell is a right-handed batter whose strongest role is in the middle and lower-middle order, where his boundary-hitting can change the pace of an innings. His game is particularly suited to T20 cricket because he can attack pace and target the boundary during the closing overs. He also bowls right-arm medium-fast, although batting has become his primary role at international and franchise level.

Which Team Does Rovman Powell Play for in ILT20?

Rovman Powell plays for Dubai Capitals in DP World ILT20 Season 5. Unlike most of the Capitals’ 2026 squad, Powell did not need to be bought at the Player Auction. Dubai Capitals secured him as a pre-auction signing, with the official ILT20 announcement describing him as returning to the squad. He was joined in the Capitals’ pre-auction group by Marcus Stoinis, Mustafizur Rahman and Noor Ahmad.

International Career and West Indies Leadership

Powell made his international debut for West Indies in 2016 and developed into an important white-ball player. His most significant individual T20I milestone came against England in Bridgetown in January 2022, when he scored 107 from 53 balls for his first T20 international century.

His career has also included senior leadership responsibilities. Powell became West Indies’ full-time T20I captain in 2023 and led the side to bilateral series victories against South Africa, India and England. He then captained West Indies at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where the team progressed to the Super Eight stage.

Rovman Powell’s Dubai Capitals Career

Powell has already produced major innings for Dubai Capitals. During ILT20 Season 4 in December 2025, he struck an unbeaten 96 from 52 balls against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. His innings helped the Capitals reach 186 before they dismissed the Knight Riders for 103, completing an 83-run victory.

His connection with the franchise also includes Dubai Capitals’ first ILT20 championship. Powell was part of the Capitals side that won the Season 3 title in 2025, and the ICC credits him with being named Player of the Match in the final. That title-winning experience gives him a proven history with the franchise rather than making him a new addition for Season 5.

T20 Career and Major Achievements

Beyond ILT20, Powell has played franchise T20 cricket in several major competitions. One of his notable leadership achievements came in the Caribbean Premier League, where he captained Jamaica Tallawahs to the 2022 CPL title. His combination of middle-order power and captaincy experience has made him a regular presence in T20 cricket outside the West Indies international side as well.

Powell’s international record also includes more than 100 T20I appearances, with his 107 against England remaining his highest score in the format. His ability to clear the boundary has been a defining part of his T20 career.

Rovman Powell in ILT20 Season 5

For Dubai Capitals, Powell enters Season 5 as a returning player who already understands the franchise and UAE conditions. His role gives the Capitals an experienced right-handed power hitter for the middle order, while his previous title-winning campaign and leadership background add experience to a squad featuring Faf du Plessis, Marcus Stoinis, Phil Salt, Dasun Shanaka, Mustafizur Rahman and Noor Ahmad.

DP World ILT20 Season 5 runs from 21 November to 20 December 2026. Powell’s return means the Capitals retain a batter who has already delivered both a championship-winning campaign and major individual performances for the franchise.
