Usman Najeeb
Player Information
Usman Najeeb Player Overview
Usman Najeeb is a Saudi Arabia international bowler who returns to Dubai Capitals for DP World ILT20 Season 5. A right-arm medium bowler and right-handed batter, Usman has developed into an important wicket-taking option for Saudi Arabia in T20 international cricket.
His Season 5 selection continues an existing relationship with Dubai Capitals rather than beginning a completely new franchise journey. After spending the previous ILT20 season with the Capitals, Usman was secured again at the Season 5 Player Auction.
Playing Style
Usman’s primary contribution comes with his right-arm medium bowling. His international record shows an ability to take wickets regularly while maintaining a competitive economy rate, particularly during his productive 2024 season.
He is also capable of contributing lower-order runs. Although batting is not his main role, his T20I record includes useful cameos and a strike rate above 120, giving his team additional depth towards the end of an innings.
Which Team Does Usman Najeeb Play for in ILT20?
Usman Najeeb plays for Dubai Capitals in DP World ILT20 Season 5. The Capitals secured the Saudi Arabia international for US$10,000 during the Season 5 Player Auction.
He was also part of the Dubai Capitals setup in the previous season. During that experience, Usman worked with former India fast bowler and Capitals coach Munaf Patel on his bowling fundamentals and preparation. He has also spoken about the value of bowling to established international batters such as Rovman Powell and Dasun Shanaka in training.
Saudi Arabia International Career
Usman made his T20 international debut for Saudi Arabia against Canada in Oman on 15 November 2022. He quickly became a regular member of the national team’s bowling attack and appeared in tournaments including the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship, ACC competitions and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualification events.
Across his first 40 T20 internationals, Usman took 54 wickets from 39 bowling innings. His overall record included a bowling average below 20 and an economy rate under eight runs per over, highlighting his value as a wicket-taking option for Saudi Arabia.
Outstanding 2024 T20I Season
The most productive period of Usman’s early international career came in 2024. He collected 38 wickets from 21 T20I bowling innings during the calendar year, accounting for the majority of his first 54 international wickets.
His performances included spells against teams such as Bahrain, Qatar, Thailand, Cambodia, Bhutan and the United Arab Emirates. The volume of wickets established Usman among Saudi Arabia’s most productive bowlers during a busy year of regional and international competition.
Career-Best 4/25 Against UAE
Usman’s standout T20I performance came against the United Arab Emirates at the ICC Academy in Dubai on 19 December 2024. Saudi Arabia posted 182 for 8 before Usman produced career-best figures of 4 for 25 from four overs.
His spell helped restrict the UAE to 171 for 5, giving Saudi Arabia an 11-run victory in the Gulf Cricket T20 Championship. Usman also contributed 12 runs from seven balls and was named Player of the Match for his all-round impact.
Experience in UAE Conditions
Usman’s career gives him useful familiarity with cricket in the Gulf. His career-best international bowling performance came in Dubai, while his previous season with the Capitals provided direct exposure to the franchise environment and ILT20 training standards.
That background should reduce the adjustment required for Season 5. Instead of learning a new setup from the beginning, he returns with an understanding of the Capitals environment and experience working alongside high-level international players.
Usman Najeeb in ILT20 Season 5
Usman enters Season 5 as one of the players representing the growing pathway between Gulf international cricket and the ILT20. His Saudi Arabia record demonstrates his wicket-taking ability, while his previous time with Dubai Capitals gives him valuable familiarity with the franchise.
Dubai Capitals begin their Season 5 campaign against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at Dubai International Stadium on 22 November 2026. For Usman, another season with the Capitals provides an opportunity to turn the experience gained around international players into greater impact at franchise level.
