Who Is Azmatullah Omarzai?
Azmatullah Omarzai is an Afghanistan international all-rounder who returns to Gulf Giants for DP World ILT20 Season 5 in 2026. Born on 24 March 2000, he bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium-fast. Omarzai contributes in both departments, giving his team a middle-order batting option as well as a seamer capable of operating at different stages of an innings.
Azmatullah Omarzai and Gulf Giants
Omarzai already has experience with Gulf Giants and was secured as one of the franchise’s pre-auction signings for Season 5. In the 2025 ILT20 season, he played 10 matches, scored 233 runs and took 12 wickets. His best bowling figures were 4/32, while his highest score was 43.
Impact in the Previous ILT20 Season
His 2025 campaign showed why Gulf Giants value his all-round role. Omarzai contributed useful runs in the middle order while also providing regular wickets with the ball. In one early-season victory over Dubai Capitals, he took 3/46 before adding 14 runs during the successful chase. He also produced an unbeaten 39 from 16 balls against MI Emirates in another Gulf Giants win.
Afghanistan International Career
Omarzai made his ODI debut against Ireland in January 2021 and has developed into an important member of Afghanistan’s white-ball teams. He combines controlled medium-fast bowling with powerful right-handed batting and has featured for Afghanistan in major ICC tournaments, including the ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup.
ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year
Omarzai was named the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2024 after a productive year with both bat and ball. His ODI career also includes a highest score of 149 and a five-wicket haul of 5/58 against England during the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Role in ILT20 Season 5
For Gulf Giants, Omarzai provides balance because he can contribute without occupying a specialist batting or bowling role alone.
