ILT20 2026 Auction: Date, Venue, Rules and What to Expect on October 1
The ILT20 Season 5 Player Auction takes place today at the ICC Academy indoor facility in Dubai. Here is everything confirmed before the first bid is placed.
The ILT20 Season 5 Player Auction takes place today, 1 October 2026, at the ICC Academy indoor facility in Dubai. More than 800 players from 20 countries registered for this auction. Organisers shortlisted approximately 200 players who will go under the hammer across multiple bidding sets throughout the day.
This is only the second ILT20 auction in history. The first was held on 1 October 2025 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jumeirah, Dubai, where Ravichandran Ashwin entered at the highest base price of USD 120,000 but went unsold in both the main and accelerated rounds. Season 5 runs from 22 November to 20 December 2026 across Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. The opening match is Dubai Capitals vs Desert Vipers on 22 November 2026 at Dubai International Stadium.
What is Already Confirmed Before the Auction
All six franchises completed their pre-auction signings on 3 August 2026. Every franchise used all four available slots. The confirmed pre-auction signings are:
Abu Dhabi Knight Riders
Desert Vipers
Dubai Capitals
Gulf Giants
MI Emirates
Sharjah Warriorz
ILT20 2026 Auction Rules and Squad Structure
Each franchise can have between 18 and 23 players in their squad. Every franchise holds four Right to Match cards covering one Full Member player from Season 4, one Associate player from Season 4, one UAE player from Season 4 or the 2026 Development Tournament squad, and one Kuwait or Saudi Arabia player from Season 4. These cards are optional and not compulsory.
After the main bidding sets are completed, franchises with available squad space can request up to eight players from the Accelerated Set. The auction ends once all six teams have met their minimum spending and squad composition requirements. One Wildcard signing can be added after the auction concludes.
New Squad Composition Rules for Season 5
Season 5 introduces mandatory squad rules for the first time in ILT20 history. All six franchises formally objected to these regulations but the Emirates Cricket Board confirmed they are mandatory.
These new rules are expected to significantly increase the value of specialist UAE middle order batters at the auction. Sohaib Khan, who scored two half centuries at the 2026 T20 World Cup, is among the names expected to attract competitive bidding. Former Indian domestic and IPL players including Harpreet Bhatia and Akshdeep Nath have recently become eligible to represent UAE, deepening the available talent pool.
Base Price Categories
Players registered at one of four base price brackets. The USD 120,000 bracket is reserved for the most experienced international names. In the Season 4 auction, Ravichandran Ashwin entered at this bracket but went unsold.
What to Watch For at the ILT20 2026 Auction
The Afghanistan quota rule means demand for quality Afghan players will be higher than any previous ILT20 season. Franchises that have not already secured four Afghanistan players through pre-auction signings will compete directly for the same pool of eligible performers.
The Ireland slot is entirely new for Season 5 and all six franchises need at least one Ireland player. This creates direct bidding competition for a small pool of eligible performers regardless of the price they enter at.
Death over bowlers who can consistently execute in overs 18 to 20 will attract premium bids as they always do at T20 franchise auctions. Genuine yorker specialists remain the scarcest and most valuable resource in franchise T20 cricket.
Full updated squad lists for all six franchises will be published on the ILT20 2026 squads page once the auction concludes today. Check the ILT20 Season 5 schedule for the full fixture list from 22 November 2026.
